Poland is preparing to make changes to the rules governing the stay of Ukrainian refugees. A new law, which will come into effect in August 2025, will cover social benefits, living conditions, registration procedures, and employment in education and healthcare.

According to 'Visit Ukraine', the new rules are adopted to extend temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens until 2026 and to adapt to European standards while reducing abuses.

Changes to the conditions of refugees in Poland

One of the key points of the new regulations is the cessation of mass placement of refugees in collective centers, as well as the provision of accommodation and food only to certain categories of individuals starting from November 1.

Stricter registration procedures are also foreseen, including mandatory fingerprinting and monitoring of border crossings, as well as new grounds for the annulment of residence permits.

Facilitations in education and healthcare

Ukrainian children will have additional classes, and teachers will receive compensation for extra work. Medical workers will be able to continue working in Poland until March 2026 under a simplified procedure.

The new rules will come into effect 14 days after their official publication in August.

Ukrainian refugees in Poland can expect significant changes in the rules of stay aimed at support and adaptation to European standards. The new law suggests restrictions on living in collective centers, stricter registration procedures, and facilitations in the fields of education and healthcare, particularly for Ukrainian children and medical staff.
