Damaged equipment due to current: DTEK has published a compensation recovery algorithm
According to ХВИЛЯ: Consumers have the right to compensation for damaged household appliances due to poor electricity supply. DTEK has provided a course of action for obtaining compensation, which includes several important steps.
Steps of the compensation procedure
The compensation procedure begins with a written request that must be submitted through the personal cabinet on the company's website. In this request, the consumer must detail the circumstances of the incident, including the date, time, and place where the equipment was damaged. To complete the request, it is also necessary to add a package of documents. It includes:
- conclusion of the service center;
- application in any form;
- copies of the passport and the taxpayer identification number (TIN).
Consideration of requests takes up to 30 calendar days. It is important to note that starting from July 1, 2025, new quality parameters for electricity will be introduced in Ukraine. The nominal voltage will be 230 V, and the permissible deviation corridor will now be 207-253 V. Energy suppliers are responsible for the quality of the current only up to the point of entry into the house.
Judicial practices in 2025 show a positive trend for consumers. For example, in March 2025, the court obliged 'Chernivtsioblenergo' to pay the consumer 5000 UAH in moral damages for the losses incurred. This indicates that consumers can successfully defend their rights in cases where their equipment was harmed due to inadequate quality of electricity supply.
"DTEK urges consumers not to ignore their rights and to take the opportunity for compensation, following the prescribed course of action."
The implementation of the new compensation recovery algorithm is an important step in protecting consumer rights in the electricity market. With the new quality parameters for electricity supply coming into effect in 2025, consumers will be able to demand compensation for losses incurred, which may increase suppliers' accountability for the quality of services provided. This can be a crucial factor in forming more transparent and fair relations between consumers and energy companies.
