Return of Russia to SWIFT: US Senator Asked an Uncomfortable Question to the Trump Administration
According to hvylya.net:
Wyden Demands Confirmation from Bessent on Readiness to Comply with Sanctions Against Russia
Democratic Senator Ron Wyden, who chairs the Senate Finance Committee, wrote a letter to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, asking him to confirm his readiness to enforce sanctions against Russia. Reuters reports that the senator's letter also mentioned agreements between the US and Ukraine concerning minerals and investments aimed at enhancing Ukraine's security post-war.
'I ask you to confirm your readiness to strictly adhere to these sanctions and respond to the question of how you envision other measures this administration is taking, including agreements with Ukraine that could potentially act in conjunction with these sanctions'
Wyden emphasized the importance of compliance with sanctions against Russia, especially regarding major oil companies, if this would contribute to ending the conflict in Ukraine. The senator noted that agreements should not involve those who assisted Russia during the war.
Question about the International Banking Network SWIFT
Wyden discussed Bessent's comments on Fox News, where the Treasury Secretary did not rule out the possibility of Russia returning to the international banking network SWIFT. The senator asked whether the Treasury would allow Russian banks to return to SWIFT without an agreement with Ukraine, which would resolve the issue of the RF's invasion of Ukraine.
The Trump administration had previously canceled a pressure program against Russia.
The message reflects that Democratic Senator Ron Wyden demands US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirm the readiness to comply with sanctions against Russia and emphasizes the importance of this step in promoting Ukraine's security post-war. It also raises the issue of a possible return of Russia to the international banking network SWIFT without resolving the conflict in Donbas.
