Tightened rules for tourists in Spain: what is banned

In the popular Spanish resort of Palma, rules for tourists who are used to vacationing loudly and excessively are being tightened. Local authorities have announced new restrictions aimed at improving the city's image and reducing complaints from residents. This is reported by The Sun.

New ban for yachts and boats in Spanish Palma

Mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez Llabrés, stated that starting next season, yachts and boats that hold parties will be prohibited from docking at the city promenade. According to him, the decision was made after numerous complaints from local residents who reported noise, mess, and drunken tourists.

Martínez Llabrés emphasized that the new restrictions are part of the overall strategy of the city council to improve the quality of tourism. The final amount of fines for violations is still under discussion, but the authorities promise that they will be substantial.

What other restrictions apply for tourists in Spanish Palma

Restrictions are not new for Palma — some of them were introduced earlier this year. In particular:

• the sale of alcohol is allowed only from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM;

• consumption of alcohol is prohibited in public places — parks, beaches, and streets;

• violations may incur fines up to 3000 euros.

Local authorities hope that the new rules will help make Palma more comfortable not only for tourists but also for the residents themselves. The municipality believes that the changes will restore the resort's status as a cultural center, rather than just a place for uncontrolled parties.

Tourists should be cautious, as leaving belongings on the beach may result in fines up to 250 euros. Local authorities are taking measures against vacationers who occupy spots on the beach but do not show up.
