The coast can be accessed by tram, and the airport by high-speed metro. The city also has four major railway hubs, making it convenient for tourists without cars.

Interestingly, a few years ago, Athens ranked in Lonely Planet as one of the most congested cities in Europe due to traffic jams. However, recent changes in the transport system have drastically improved the situation.

What Other Leading Cities Offer

Munich, which took second place, has quick connections from the airport to the city center and an extensive network of metro and trams. Lisbon, third in the ranking, attracts with its diverse transport options: from metro to ferries across the Tagus River.

Experts note that tourists are increasingly choosing cities where they can comfortably move around without a car - it's cheaper, more environmentally friendly, and allows for a better feel of the local atmosphere. Greece, particularly Athens, is actively developing public transport and tourist infrastructure to make vacations appealing year-round, not just in summer.
