Winter Support Program: 280,000 families have already received compensation for electricity
Winter Support Program
The Winter Support Program has already helped over 280,000 families receive compensation for electricity payments. This initiative started on October 1 and aims to ease the financial burden on families during the winter period. The compensation provides for 100 kWh of electricity per person per month, but no more than 300 kWh per family.
The acceptance of applications for participation in the program will last until December 17 inclusive. The amount of payment is 6,500 hryvnias. Funds received under this program must be used within six months (180 days) from the moment they are credited to the account.
Targeted assistance for vulnerable populations
Yulia Svyrydenko, a government representative, noted that this targeted assistance is intended for residents of frontline regions so that families can more easily get through the winter period and meet their basic needs. She also added that the additional payment is automatically provided along with the monthly subsidy or benefit for housing and communal services payments.
Participants in the program can include various categories of the population, including:
- families with children who have low-income status;
- children from internally displaced persons who are already receiving housing assistance;
- children under guardianship or custody;
- children with disabilities who are raised in family-type orphanages and foster families;
- persons with disabilities of group I among IDPs;
- single pensioners who receive a care allowance, provided that their pension does not exceed 9,444 hryvnias.
The Winter Support Program is an important tool for supporting vulnerable populations in Ukraine, especially in the context of economic difficulties caused by war and the energy crisis. Its implementation helps to reduce the financial burden on families during the winter period, which is critically important for meeting their basic needs. It is also important that the program is accessible to various categories of the population, highlighting its social orientation.
