Deadly Drone Attack on DTEK Mine

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: Russian drones hit one of DTEK's mining operations in the Dnipropetrovsk region on August 17. The strike killed a mine employee and wounded another worker, who received medical care. The mine's infrastructure was badly damaged, and the scale of destruction is still being assessed. DTEK reported the attack, according to Rubryka. This incident is part of a broader pattern of drone strikes on mining infrastructure in the region.

The attack was not an isolated event. In February 2026, a Russian drone landed near a company shuttle bus in the Pavlohrad district of Dnipropetrovsk region, killing 12 miners and injuring 16 others, nine of them in serious condition. In another attack, on the night of December 12, 2025, a state-owned coal mine was hit by enemy drones, sparking a fire that injured two workers.

'Unfortunately, we lost our colleague in this attack. Our sincere condolences go out to his family and loved ones,' DTEK said in a statement.

These episodes highlight the deadly risks that miners face while doing their jobs during wartime. Ukrainian mines remain vulnerable amid ongoing hostilities, and strikes on industrial sites cause not only casualties but also serious economic damage to the region. The latest attack reinforces the urgent need to protect workers in conflict zones and to maintain international support for shielding civilians from aggression.
