Psychologists Gather at Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs

According to МВС: On April 23, just before the All-Ukrainian Psychologist Day, a meeting with mental health professionals was held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Deputy Minister Kateryna Pavlichenko addressed the specialists, praising their crucial role in providing psychological support during wartime-especially amid the massive Russian strikes that hit the country this past winter. Those attacks left Ukraine without electricity and heating, worsening the hardship for countless citizens.

Psychological Aid During the War

Over 45 consecutive days of operation at heating shelters, psychologists from the State Emergency Service (DSNS) and the National Police aided roughly 40,000 individuals. Kateryna Pavlichenko stated:

“It was then that DSNS and National Police psychologists worked at heating shelters, supporting people and demonstrating resilience. Over 45 days of continuous shelter operations, about 40,000 people received help. These were not just places to warm up-they were spaces of psychological strength.” - Kateryna Pavlichenko

The contributions of psychologists from the National Guard of Ukraine and the State Border Guard Service were also recognized. The event highlighted the vital work of mental health experts in departmental medical facilities, where they assist in both the physical and emotional recovery of victims and system employees. Emphasis was placed on the role of psychologists in the reintegration of those freed from captivity, underscoring their importance in restoring peace of mind and offering support during trying times.

This gathering underscores the critical need for psychological support amid military conflict, which is essential for preserving the nation's mental health. In the context of a prolonged war and constant stress, these professionals provide not only emotional care but also help people adapt to new realities-a key component of the country's overall recovery.

As the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to emphasize the significance of psychological support, it is worth noting the impressive efforts of the psychological service, which has assisted over 14,000 individuals in recent months. This highlights the ongoing commitment to mental health during these challenging times.
