Next-Generation Airport Technology

According to УНІАН — Туризм: Qatar Airways has introduced a new biometric identification system called Fast Pass at Hamad International Airport in Doha. This innovative system uses facial recognition technology, allowing passengers to complete key pre-boarding steps without needing a paper or digital boarding pass. Participation is voluntary, and all data collected during the process is automatically deleted 24 hours after the flight departs.

Travelers can activate Fast Pass after checking in online via the Qatar Airways app or at the airport using self-service kiosks. Once activated, trip information is sent to the airport to create a digital profile linked to the passenger's biometric data. This profile contains essential details about the route and checked luggage, and is used solely for that specific journey.

Fast Pass settings are stored on the passenger's smartphone, though travelers are advised to keep their passport handy for border control or in case of system failure. Currently, Fast Pass is only operational at Doha's airport and is available exclusively for Qatar Airways flights.

The State of Biometric Technology Today

It is worth noting that similar biometric identification systems are already in use by Emirates at Dubai Airport, as well as at Japan's Haneda and Narita airports through the Face Express service. In the United States, the TSA PreCheck Touchless ID system covers 65 airports.

Biometric technology is becoming the new standard in aviation, boosting efficiency and convenience for passengers. Meanwhile, in Ukraine, the launch of a Ukrainian-language audio guide at the Anıtkabir memorial in Turkey, initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska, highlights a growing focus on tourist needs and the integration of modern technology into everyday experiences.

The rollout of biometric systems like Fast Pass aligns with a broader trend in the aviation industry aimed at making travel more comfortable and secure.

This also suggests that airlines are actively adapting to the expectations of today's passengers, who demand fast and seamless check-in and screening procedures. At the same time, the use of such technology raises important questions about data protection and privacy, which remain critical concerns in the age of digital services.
