UN Security Council Meeting on Venezuela

According to Главком: The UN Security Council will hold a meeting regarding the situation in Venezuela, initiated by Colombia and supported by China and Russia. This meeting will take place on Monday in response to a military operation by the US that resulted in the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. A letter to the UN on this matter was written by Venezuela's ambassador Samuel Moncada.

Nicolas Maduro has served as president since March 5, 2013, after defeating his opponent Enrique Capriles in the general elections on April 14, 2013. Donald Trump, the President of the US, announced Maduro's arrest and that of his wife, calling it a 'successful large-scale operation by the US'. Trump also noted that Maduro was 'captured and taken out of the country'.

Consequences of US Actions

At the UN Security Council meeting, representatives from various countries will discuss the consequences of US actions. Samuel Moncada emphasized that this situation is a

'colonial war'

and pointed out that it is important to discuss the international implications for Venezuela. UN Secretary-General's spokesman Stefan Dujarric characterized Maduro's arrest as a

'dangerous precedent'

, highlighting the increasing tension in the region.

The UN Security Council meeting could become an important milestone in the development of international relations concerning Venezuela. The reaction of the international community to the US military operation may affect the further developments in the region, particularly the political stability in Venezuela and its relations with neighboring countries. The discussion at the UN may also open new horizons for diplomatic initiatives and potential peace negotiations.
