Ukrainian drivers most often get into accidents in Poland and Germany — these countries topped the European statistics for accidents involving Ukrainian citizens in 2025. According to the MTIBU, there were 3,803 incidents recorded in Poland alone, which accounts for the largest share of all accidents of Ukrainians abroad. This is reported by In Poland.

In Germany, the number of accidents amounted to 2,175 cases, while the average insurance payout there is twice as high as in Poland. Overall, these two countries have the greatest impact on the compensation amounts for Ukrainian drivers in Europe. Other EU states record significantly lower figures, but the compensation amounts can be higher due to more expensive repairs and insurance rates.

Top-7 EU countries by number of accidents involving Ukrainians and average payout

  1. Poland — 3,803 cases, average payout 2,332.4 euros

  2. Germany — 2,175 cases, 4,759.5 euros

  3. Czech Republic — 670 cases, 3,510.1 euros

  4. Romania — 661 cases, 3,629.2 euros

  5. Italy — 575 cases, 5,696.7 euros

  6. Belgium — 289 cases, 3,461 euros

  7. Austria — 254 cases, 3,595.9 euros.

What the payout amounts depend on

Statistics show: Ukrainian drivers abroad face high risks on the roads, especially in countries with large diasporas and heavy traffic. At the same time, the payout amounts depend not only on the severity of accidents but also on local repair and insurance rates. This data is critical for those who drive in the EU — both personally and when renting a car or working as a driver.
