For the fourth consecutive day, Russia launches missile strikes on Naftogaz facilities
Strikes target Naftogaz Group infrastructure
According to Главком: In the early hours of May 20, Russian forces launched missile attacks on oil and gas infrastructure operated by the Naftogaz Group in the Chernihiv region. These strikes mark the latest in a deliberate campaign that has now continued for four straight days. While the attacks have caused significant damage and destruction to the company’s equipment, no employees have been injured.
The overnight assault on May 20 followed sustained enemy activity, including the use of drones throughout the previous day. Reports confirm that on the night of May 19, the Russian military also struck Naftogaz Group infrastructure. Additionally, over the course of the past day and night, the adversary hit company assets in the Dnipropetrovsk region with three ballistic missiles.
Critical infrastructure damaged
Equally severe damage occurred during the attacks on May 18, when multiple Russian drones struck critical Naftogaz infrastructure in the Dnipropetrovsk region. One of the targeted sites was a Ukrnafta gas station complex, where two female employees were injured, and both the station building and its equipment were completely destroyed.
Earlier, Russian forces targeted Naftogaz infrastructure in several Ukrainian regions. In the Kharkiv region, a drone damaged a gas production facility, while in the Zhytomyr region, a company enterprise was hit. Furthermore, a heavy shelling attack on Dnipro damaged around 20 apartment buildings and private homes, as well as two kindergartens, a gymnasium, a mosque, a university building, and a tram.
These attacks highlight the ongoing tension and volatility of the war in Ukraine. Damage to critical infrastructure, including energy facilities, can have severe consequences for regional economies and livelihoods that depend on these resources. The relentless strikes on infrastructure reflect the aggressor’s strategic aim to weaken the country’s internal stability.
The recent missile strikes on Naftogaz facilities are part of a broader pattern of assaults targeting critical infrastructure in Ukraine. As highlighted in a similar incident where three ballistic missiles impacted Naftogaz assets, these attacks not only threaten energy security but also pose significant risks to civilian safety and regional stability.
