Three Ballistic Missiles Hit Naftogaz Facilities in Russian Strike
Attacks on Naftogaz Group Infrastructure
According to Главком: In the early hours of May 19, the Russian military launched an assault on Naftogaz Group assets using three ballistic missiles. The strike specifically targeted the company's holdings in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Preliminary reports indicate damage and destruction at the sites, the full extent of which will be assessed once the air raid alert ends. Notably, no personnel were injured, according to Serhiy Koretskyi, Chairman of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.
This attack followed a previous incident on the night of May 18, when Russian drones struck critical infrastructure linked to Naftogaz in the same region. The targeted facilities included:
- an Ukrnafta gas station complex, where two female employees sustained injuries during the strike;
- the station's building and equipment, which were completely destroyed;
- a Naftogaz gas production site in the Kharkiv region;
- a company enterprise in the Zhytomyr region.
Consequences of the Assaults
The Russian military operations caused damage to roughly 20 apartment buildings and private homes in Dnipro. Additionally, two kindergartens, a gymnasium, a mosque, a university building, and a tram car were damaged. Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov expressed concern about the city's situation, emphasizing the need to protect critical infrastructure.
These attacks highlight an escalation in the conflict and a growing threat to Ukraine's critical infrastructure. The damage to Naftogaz facilities and residential buildings in Dnipro underscores the impact of military actions on civilians and the economy. The government and local authorities must implement further measures to safeguard such assets and ensure public safety.
The recent missile strike is not the first incident targeting Naftogaz facilities in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Just hours before, overnight drone attacks had already inflicted damage on critical infrastructure associated with the company, raising concerns about the ongoing threats to Ukraine's energy sector and civilian safety.
