Critical Energy Infrastructure Targeted in Major Russian Strikes Across Ukraine
Strike on Chernivtsi Region
According to Главком: In the early hours of March 7, Russian forces launched a large-scale assault on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, with the Chernivtsi region among the primary targets. The attack on this western region involved 11 unmanned aerial vehicles and four Kalibr-type cruise missiles, specifically aimed at energy facilities in the Dnistrovskyi district. These strikes are part of a sustained Russian campaign to degrade Ukraine's power grid, which has intensified since the onset of winter.
The strikes on two sites in Chernivtsi ignited fires at three separate locations, with a total fire area of 290 square meters extinguished. Emergency services deployed 75 personnel and 14 pieces of equipment to manage the aftermath. Officials reported no casualties in the Chernivtsi region as a result of this attack.
Impact Across Other Ukrainian Regions
Throughout the day, Russian weaponry was used against targets in more than ten Ukrainian oblasts. Overnight on March 7, the Russian military also struck the Vinnytsia region. In Kharkiv, the death toll from a strike on a residential building rose to 11. The capital, Kyiv, sustained damage to critical infrastructure, leaving thousands of apartment buildings without heating by the morning of March 7.
This assault is part of Russia's ongoing military actions against Ukraine, which are aimed at weakening the country's energy infrastructure.
Such concentrated attacks on critical civilian infrastructure can have severe consequences for the population, leading to widespread power and heating outages. During winter conditions, these actions significantly complicate daily life and elevate risks to public health and safety.
