Russia launched a massive strike on energy: over 500 thousand consumers left without electricity
Massive missile-drone strike on Ukraine
Russia launched a massive missile-drone strike on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, particularly in Kyiv and several regions, resulting in over 500 thousand consumers being left without electricity. On the night of November 28 to 29, the attack targeted Kyiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Poltava, and Kharkiv regions.
Among the affected areas, particularly significant losses are recorded in Kyiv, where over 500 thousand consumers are without electricity. In the Kyiv region, more than 100 thousand people are left without power, while in Kharkiv Oblast — nearly 8 thousand. This attack has become the seventh massive strike on Ukrainian energy in the last two months.
Status of Ukraine’s energy system
As of 8:30 AM on November 29, electricity consumption in Ukraine was 2.1% higher than at the same time last Saturday, indicating an increase in electricity demand amid energy restrictions.
This series of attacks underscores the duration and intensity of military actions aimed at destroying Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which has serious consequences for the population and the economy. The disconnection of large regions during the winter creates additional difficulties for ensuring the livelihoods and safety of citizens, and jeopardizes the operation of enterprises. The high demand for electricity may force the government to take additional measures to support the energy system and mitigate the impact on the population.
