Russia Launches Major Assault Across Ukraine, Resulting in Civilian Deaths and Property Damage
Coordinated Strikes Hit Ukraine on March 7
According to Главком: In the early hours of March 7, Russian forces launched a large-scale, multi-vector assault across Ukraine. The attack combined various types of missiles and strike drones, targeting several key regions including Chernivtsi, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Odesa. This latest barrage is part of Russia's ongoing campaign to degrade Ukrainian infrastructure and morale. In Kharkiv, the strikes proved particularly deadly, killing three people and injuring at least ten others, including three children: boys aged 11 and 6, and a 17-year-old girl.
Ukrainian air defense units were active during the assault, with explosions reported in Kyiv and its surrounding region. In Kharkiv's Kyivskyi district, a missile struck a residential building, destroying an entrance to a five-story block and damaging a neighboring structure. The aftermath of the strikes was also recorded in the Desnianskyi district of the capital.
Rescue Operations Underway
Emergency services are conducting search and rescue operations at the impact sites. The primary targets of the attack appeared to be Ukraine's energy infrastructure, with facilities hit in multiple locations:
- Novodnistrovsk
- Zhytomyr Region
- Kyiv
- Nalyvaikivka
- Vilniansk
- Kharkiv
- Kharkiv Region
- Odesa
- Chornomorsk
This assault is part of Russia's prolonged military aggression against Ukraine, which began in 2014. Such attacks, often aimed at destabilizing the energy grid, pose a persistent threat to civilians and critical infrastructure, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced air defense capabilities. Targeting power systems during winter months can have severe humanitarian consequences for the civilian population.
