Russia's Appeal to the United Nations

According to МЗС: Russia has petitioned the United Nations to recognize the self-determination of Donbas, drawing a comparison to Greenland's status. This move was reported by Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Georgiy Tykhyi. He pointed out that in October 2022, 143 members of the UN General Assembly had already rejected Russia's illegal annexations. This latest diplomatic maneuver is seen as an attempt to reframe the conflict after its full-scale invasion faced widespread international condemnation.

“Someone needs to tell these idiots that the UN has already answered: in October 2022, 143 members of the UN General Assembly rejected Russia's illegal land grabs. Bingo card: get the hell out of Ukraine.”

International Reaction

The statement underscores Russia's ongoing attempts to legitimize its actions in Ukraine on the world stage, despite the clear position held by a majority of UN member states. The UN General Assembly's refusal to recognize Russia's annexations demonstrates the international community's steadfast commitment to upholding Ukraine's territorial integrity. This firm stance is likely to shape the diplomatic landscape as both sides continue their efforts to seek international support.
