Russian Strike on Slavutych: Chernobyl Facilities Left Without Power
Russian Attack on the Power Substation in Slavutych
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on social media that the Russian strike on the power substation in Slavutych led to a prolonged power outage at the site of the former Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, including the new shelter over the fourth reactor and the storage facility for spent nuclear fuel.
According to Zelensky, the Russians used more than 20 drones for this strike, ignoring the potential risks to Chernobyl facilities. The attack was aimed at complicating the protection of infrastructure, although some drones were shot down.
'Russia is deliberately creating a threat of radiation incidents, exploiting the weaknesses of the IAEA and Director Rafael Grossi, and diverting the world's attention,' the president emphasized.
Power outages are also continuing at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant due to Russian shelling, complicating the restoration of external electricity supply. Zelensky urged the international community to act together and increase pressure on Russia to prevent similar events in the future.
Following the Russian attack on the power substation in Slavutych, which caused a blackout at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant facilities, and ongoing shelling at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the president of Ukraine called for unity and increased international pressure on Russia to prevent similar events in the future.
