Saab plans to assemble Gripen fighter jets in Ukraine: contract details
The Swedish company Saab is considering the possibility of establishing a facility in Ukraine for assembling fighter jets
According to 'Khylyi', Saab AB's CEO Mikael Johansson stated in an interview with the Financial Times that the company is exploring the possibility of signing a contract for 100-150 aircraft for Ukraine, which would significantly increase their production needs.
'Organizing production during wartime is a challenging task, but it would be great to establish at least final assembly, testing, and possibly partial production in Ukraine,' Johansson noted.
In addition to Ukraine, Saab is also considering increasing aircraft production in Brazil, as well as opportunities in Canada and several European countries. Finalizing the agreement requires a decision on funding, which may be influenced by frozen Russian assets.
Important success for Saab
This potential contract is significant for Saab, as the company has currently sold only a limited number of Gripen E fighters in various countries. Earlier, President Zelensky announced the future acquisition of Gripen fighters by Ukraine.
The Saab enterprise is considering the possibility of establishing a factory in Ukraine for assembling fighter jets, which will contribute to improving the country's military-industrial complex and may have strategic significance in the context of the geopolitical situation in the region.
