Saakashvili spoke about his 'European' plans
The former head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, leader of the 'Movement of New Forces' party Mikheil Saakashvili announced his intention to engage in political activities in Europe in the near future.
Saakashvili made this statement during a press conference in Warsaw, reports the own correspondent of Ukrinform in Poland.
In particular, he emphasized that he would be even more active in Europe in the near future than he was in Ukraine.
'In the coming weeks, I will be actively working with the European Parliament, with European politicians, we will create our Magnitsky list regarding Ukrainian corruption', - said Saakashvili.
He added that in the coming days he would visit his family in the Netherlands, and then start holding meetings in Europe and the USA.
Saakashvili also stated that he would remain a Ukrainian politician and restore his Ukrainian citizenship
'The attempt to get rid of me as a Ukrainian politician is doomed. I have been and remain a Ukrainian politician, of course, while remaining a Georgian, but I will restore my Ukrainian citizenship', - he said.
According to Saakashvili, while he is abroad, protests against the authorities will continue in Ukraine, and later, when the opportunity arises, he will return to Ukraine.
It should be noted that on February 12, Saakashvili was taken to the airport and deported to Poland on a charter flight
In addition, Saakashvili noted that criminal cases have been opened against him in Ukraine, and therefore he should not have been expelled from Ukraine, but judged.
'One must be a complete ignoramus to throw me out of the country if I am a criminal... Return me to Ukraine, I want to be judged in Ukraine', - stated Saakashvili.
He also pointed out that he was taken to Poland on a private plane rented by someone who was also on the plane. Upon arrival in Poland, Polish border guards asked him if he wanted to seek political asylum, but he refused, Ukrinform reports.
Saakashvili also reported that at the airport, he was met in the VIP terminal by Polish politicians from the ruling party 'Law and Justice' (PiS).
As reported, in July 2017, Saakashvili was deprived of Ukrainian citizenship by the decree of the President of Ukraine.
On September 10, Saakashvili entered the territory of Ukraine from Poland without passing border control. In September, the court found Saakashvili guilty of illegally crossing the border of Ukraine. In addition, the court denied Saakashvili's claims against the State Migration Service in recognizing him as a refugee.
On February 12, officers of the State Border Service and representatives of the State Migration Service of Ukraine detained Saakashvili in Kyiv and expelled him to Poland as a person who unlawfully arrived from that country on September 10, 2017.
