Sanctions Against Ukrainians: Vlasjuk Explained Why This Is Not a Unique Practice
According to glavcom.ua: The President of Ukraine's Commissioner for Sanctions Policy, Vladyslav Vlasjuk, emphasized that including Ukrainians in sanction lists is a normal practice that is widespread in many countries around the world. For example, Britain included two citizens of the United Kingdom in its latest sanctions package. This is done to combat Russian aggression against Ukraine, regardless of the citizenship of these individuals.
“This is actually not a unique practice. For instance, in the latest sanctions package from Britain, there are two subjects of Her Majesty. All countries to some extent include, albeit insignificantly, some of their own citizens in their sanction lists,” Vlasjuk said.
Vlasjuk also called on citizens to provide information about individuals spreading Russian propaganda narratives. This could serve as a basis for considering the possibility of imposing sanctions. It is important that sanctions are based on legitimate grounds and prepared by qualified personnel.
“There is definitely no situation where we target someone and not someone else. There is a general understanding that any sanction decision should be based on certain legal grounds. Additionally, one must have human resources to prepare the relevant decisions,” Vlasjuk emphasized.
The Ukrainian Commissioner for Sanctions Policy stresses the necessity of adhering to legality and using citizens' information for further actions against individuals who support Russian aggression.
