SBU Hotline Update

According to Главком: The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has updated the contact details for its public hotline. Citizens can now call the short number 1516, a toll-free line accessible from all landline and mobile phones within Ukraine. The service urges the public to report any suspicious activity, particularly attempts at recruitment by Russian intelligence services. This hotline serves as a critical tool for national security, allowing ordinary citizens to contribute directly to counter-intelligence efforts.

The SBU emphasizes using 1516 to report information concerning the planning of terrorist attacks, sabotage, or other illegal acts. Reports should also be made if approached by strangers with proposals related to:

  • arson,
  • transporting unknown items,
  • surveillance of individuals or vehicles.

Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and report suspicious objects, individuals, or online resources used by the enemy for recruitment purposes.

Dangerous Trends

Recent data reveals a troubling trend: 22% of Ukrainians recruited by Russian special services to carry out terrorist acts and sabotage have been minors. This highlights dangerous shifts in enemy tactics, demanding increased public awareness. Furthermore, in the Sumy region, instances have been recorded of Russians disseminating counterfeit banknotes via drops from unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). The conflict has seen an evolution in hybrid warfare methods, including psychological operations and financial sabotage.

Alternative channels for contacting the SBU remain available. These include the 'Burn the FSB Agent' chatbot, the email address [email protected], and the previous hotline number, 0 800 501 482, which is still operational. These communication tools provide citizens with a unique opportunity to join the fight against terrorism and counter the activities of Russian special services.

The update to the SBU hotline is a crucial step in safeguarding citizens and countering threats linked to the operations of Russian intelligence agencies.

The increased focus on recruiting minors points to new challenges facing Ukraine. Engaging society in cooperation with law enforcement can significantly strengthen defenses against terrorist acts and sabotage, as well as help identify potential threats at an early stage.

As the SBU strengthens its outreach efforts, understanding the tactics used by Russian security services is crucial.
