Ukrainian Security Service Strikes Russian Oil Terminal for Second Time in a Month

SBU attacks oil terminal in Krasnodar region
Служба безпеки України повторно завдала удару по російському нафтовому терміналу за дуже короткий період.

Drone Attack Targets Tamanneftegaz Terminal

According to Главком: In the early hours of February 17, 2026, special units of Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) carried out a drone strike on the Tamanneftegaz oil terminal in Russia's Krasnodar Krai. This marks the second attack on this facility in less than a month, following an initial strike on January 22, 2026. The information was reported by the Ukrainian outlet Glavcom, citing the SBU. These strikes are part of a broader Ukrainian campaign to degrade Russia's critical wartime revenue streams.

Drones operated by the SBU's Alpha Special Operations Center targeted the terminal's infrastructure within the port of Taman. Local residents reported explosions in the port area, and intelligence sources confirmed a fire had broken out within the complex. Russian air defense systems were unable to prevent the facility from being hit.

Impact and Consequences

The Tamanneftegaz terminal features a tank farm with a capacity exceeding 1 million cubic meters and handles the transshipment of oil, gas, and ammonia. The first attack on January 22 damaged technological pipelines at the berths and storage tanks containing vacuum gasoil and fuel oil, causing an estimated $50 million in losses. While the full results of the new February 17 strike are still being assessed, fresh fires have been confirmed on the terminal grounds.

The SBU stated it is systematically targeting assets that generate significant profits for the Russian budget, which are then directed toward funding the war. The agency emphasized its focus is on energy and export infrastructure, the disruption of which complicates the enemy's ability to finance combat operations and maintain its logistics.

This strike underscores the increasing activity of Ukrainian special services in destroying critical infrastructure that sustains Russia's wartime economy.

Such actions could significantly impact Russia's capacity to fund its military campaigns by eroding key revenue sources. However, these deep-strike attacks also carry the risk of escalating the conflict and provoking retaliatory measures from Moscow, a dynamic that continues to shape the regional security landscape.
