Philosopher Serhiy Datsiuk Critiques Ukraine's 'Resilience' Strategy as a Passive Hope for Russia's Collapse

Resilience strategy: Expectations of Russia's collapse
Філософ Сергій Дацюк аналізує стратегію України, вказуючи на її залежність від можливого розпаду Росії, як на пасивний підхід до викликів.

Serhiy Datsiuk's Critique of Ukrainian Strategy

According to ХВИЛЯ: In an interview with Yuriy Romanenko, philosopher Serhiy Datsiuk criticized Ukraine's official war strategy, arguing it lacks a concrete plan for victory and instead relies on hopes for an internal Russian collapse. He stated that the proclaimed 'resilience' concept fails to provide a realistic path to winning the war. This critique comes amid a protracted conflict where strategic clarity is paramount for Ukraine's Western partners.

Datsiuk emphasized that under this strategy, Ukraine is merely defending itself when it should be taking the war to the enemy's territory.

"So we are defending, but on the other hand, we need to bring the war to the enemy's territory. Is this resilience or an offensive for us? Well, formally speaking, our official strategy is one of resilience. But the question arises: how does victory emerge from a strategy of resilience?"

the philosopher noted.

The Peril of Illusory Scenarios

According to Datsiuk, the authorities are implicitly offering society two illusory scenarios:

  • The first scenario envisions victory in an abstract, infinite future, a so-called 'eternal time.'
  • The second scenario is the expectation of a miracle and a passive hope for the enemy's collapse without proactive action.
"The first is possible in so-called 'eternal time.' Well, that is, somewhere in eternal time, Ukraine wins,"

he stressed.

Datsiuk further argued that the transition to victory would not occur due to Ukraine's own activity, but only through Russia's internal problems. "The second point: how will the transition happen? It will happen not thanks to our activity, but simply because Russia breaks down... So, in fact, they are saying the following: God cares for Ukraine, God saves it," he added. Expressing doubt about the wisdom of a passive approach, the philosopher observed: "Both countries are being exhausted... That is, we include this here every time: because God will ensure that Russia breaks first."

Consequently, Serhiy Datsiuk called for a rethinking of strategy and proactive action, as the existing scenarios do not guarantee a real victory.

Serhiy Datsiuk's remarks highlight the critical need for active measures in the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia and cast doubt on the efficacy of the current 'resilience' strategy. His perspective may spur debate on the necessity for a shift in Ukrainian policy approaches, especially as the war drags on and resources are depleted. This could also influence public discourse on the war and increase domestic pressure on the authorities to pursue more decisive and offensive actions.
