High-Level Discussions Between Ukraine and the Republic of Korea

According to МЗС: In Seoul, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with his South Korean counterpart, Cho Tae-yul, for strategic talks. The conversation centered on several key areas:

  • advancing political dialogue;
  • expanding economic and trade partnerships;
  • encouraging Korean companies to participate in Ukraine's reconstruction;
  • deepening security cooperation.

Sybiha briefed the South Korean minister on the current battlefield situation and Ukraine's push for a just and lasting peace. He highlighted recent progress in Ukraine's defense industry, noting its potential to strengthen bilateral collaboration. Expressing gratitude for Seoul's unwavering support, Sybiha emphasized that

“Russian aggression carries global consequences.”

Shared Threats and the Path Forward

The two officials also addressed growing concerns over deepening ties between Moscow and Pyongyang, as well as the issue of North Korean prisoners of war. Sybiha voiced optimism that stronger Ukraine-ROK relations would bolster security, stability, and the rule of law in both Europe and the Indo-Pacific region. These talks reflect Ukraine's intensified diplomatic outreach to build new alliances and secure critical support during wartime. Closer engagement with South Korea could unlock fresh opportunities for Ukraine's economy and defense sector, while reinforcing its position amid rising global threats.

As Ukraine seeks to strengthen its alliances, the recent discussions in Seoul are part of a broader diplomatic initiative.
