This refinery is part of the Samara oil processing hub operated by Rosneft. It has an annual capacity of 7 to 8.5 million tons of crude oil and relies on two primary processing units: AVT-6 and AVT-5.
Following recent waves of Ukrainian drone strikes, most major refineries in central Russia have either paused operations or significantly reduced fuel production.
These actions by Ukraine's Defense Forces underscore an intensified campaign to dismantle critical enemy military and logistical assets. The shutdown of Russian refineries could severely impact fuel supplies for military operations, potentially weakening the aggressor's ability to sustain combat. Future developments will depend on how both sides respond operationally and adapt to the shifting dynamics of the war.
In a related development, recent overnight strikes have targeted other critical facilities, including an oil refinery in Kstovo and a chemical plant in Nevinnomyssk. These actions highlight the ongoing efforts by Ukraine's Defense Forces to disrupt Russian energy production capabilities.
