Deadly floods in Pakistan: over 300 dead, rescuers searching for missing persons
According to glavcom.ua: Terrible floods in Pakistan have claimed the lives of over 300 people due to extremely heavy rains and sudden floods in the mountainous region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This is the deadliest monsoon rain of the season, leading to hundreds of fatalities and missing persons.
According to official reports, as of Saturday, 307 deaths have been confirmed, and the number of missing individuals continues to rise.
As a result of this tragedy, many families have been left without their loved ones. For instance, one man lost his wife and five children due to the roof collapse of their home. In the Buner district, more than 180 deaths have been confirmed, and in the village of Beshronray, the waters have claimed the lives of over 60 residents, leaving them in immediate distress.
Rescue operations are ongoing, but the death toll may increase as bodies continue to be extracted from the rubble.
The situation is worsening
The Chief Meteorologist of Pakistan warns that climate change is leading to an increase in the frequency and severity of extreme weather events. Construction along riverbanks and waterway pollution are complicating the situation and increasing the risk of flooding.
It is important to note that a similar tragedy occurred in the Himalayas on August 14, when at least 46 people died during a downpour in Indian Kashmir. This is already the second equally horrific event in the region within a week.
As a result of the natural disaster in Pakistan, there have been over 300 deaths, and after the heat, the consequences of the tragedy may become even worse. More bodies are being recovered from the rubble, and rescue operations aimed at addressing the aftermath of the disaster are ongoing. Additionally, a large number of missing persons have yet to be found. Climate change and unsatisfactory conditions of water bodies are complicating the situation, increasing the risk of similar disasters in the future.
