Memorial events for the Day of Remembrance of Holodomor victims in Kyiv
Today, memorial events for the Day of Remembrance of Holodomor victims took place in Kyiv. Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, along with foreign ambassadors, lit the Candle of Memory at the Memorial Sign in Mykhailivska Square.
Andrii Sybiha emphasized: 'The memory of the Holodomor is our defense of historical justice and a call to responsibility. The Soviet regime could not break the eternal aspiration of Ukrainians for freedom and independence. The parliaments of 28 countries have already officially recognized the Holodomor as genocide.'
For the fourth year now, Ukraine is resisting Russia's attempts to destroy its statehood and national identity. The memory of the Holodomor is our defense and a call to responsibility.
Memorial events for the Day of Remembrance of Holodomor victims are held in various countries. These are important events that help honor the memory of millions of victims of the tragedy of 1932-1933 in Ukraine.
With a deep sense of gratitude, we also pay tribute to all those who helped the world learn about this terrible crime. Among them is American researcher of the Holodomor James Mace, who dedicated his life to establishing historical truth, as well as Raphael Lemkin, who introduced the term 'genocide' and was one of the first in the world to recognize the crimes of the Stalin regime against Ukrainians as acts of genocide.
We remember. In memory and unity, our strength.
We have a bright evening when we do not forget the dark sides of history. Memorial events for the Day of Remembrance of Holodomor victims are not only a recollection of the past but also a lesson and a memory for future generations.
