Cyber Police warns about a new wave of fraud: how to protect your money

Fake police fine Ukrainians of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
Кіберполіція закликає населення бути обережними: нові шахрайські схеми загрожують вашим коштам.

Ukrainians have been warned about a new type of scam, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

The Cyber Police of Ukraine has uncovered another case of deception: fraudsters create fake Ministry of Internal Affairs websites, block users' computers, and demand payment of a fictitious fine, even using threats of criminal liability.

The fraud scheme looks like this: by clicking on a link to the fraudulent site, victims see a page that resembles the official resource of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, complete with logos and threats regarding alleged offenses.

Criminals host phishing sites to trick users into clicking links and falling into a trap. After this, the computer gets blocked, and a demand to pay a fine occurs. To transfer money, the fraudsters provide a QR code or a payment link.

Everyone is advised to check links to websites, avoid clicking on suspicious links, refrain from making payments on dubious resources, and immediately report incidents as soon as they occur, as well as follow law enforcement recommendations to protect against cybercriminals.
