Parking fines: when it is allowed to stop under the No parking sign

Stopping a vehicle under a forbidden sign
Штрафи за паркування: в яких випадках можна зупинятись під знаком Зупинка заборонена

Ukrainian drivers have been informed when it is allowed to stop under the 'No parking' sign. This was reported by the publication 'Hvilya'.

Often in Ukraine, drivers mistakenly perceive the 'No stopping' sign as 'No parking' due to their appearance - a blue background and a red border. However, the difference between these signs is very important, as a misunderstanding may lead to fines and loss of driving rights.

The distinction between the signs:
  • The 'No stopping' sign (3.34) prohibits stopping a vehicle even for a short time unless it is due to a direct necessity.
  • The 'No parking' sign (3.35) allows a brief stop (for example, for drop-off or loading), but prohibits a delay of more than 5 minutes.

Experts explain that 'stopping' implies a short stop, even for a few seconds, while 'parking' implies a prolonged stop of more than 5 minutes, regardless of loading.

Exceptions to the rules:

  • Taxis may temporarily stop for passenger drop-off.
  • Freight vehicles may stop for a short time for unloading, provided it does not obstruct traffic.

Understanding the differences between the 'No stopping' and 'No parking' signs is very important for Ukrainian drivers, as it can help avoid trouble for improper parking and violations of traffic rules.
