Two Men Fatally Shot in Kyiv: Illegal Migrant from the Caucasus Turns Gun on Fellow Countrymen
Deadly Shooting in the Ukrainian Capital
According to Главком: A violent confrontation in Kyiv has left two men dead, with the alleged shooter identified as an illegal migrant originally from the Caucasus region. Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine, Andriy Nebytov, confirmed the details. The incident unfolded inside a garage cooperative when two men armed with a pistol confronted a fellow countryman. During the argument, the suspect grabbed the weapon and shot both of them. One of the attackers, also an illegal migrant, died at the scene, while the other succumbed to severe injuries in the hospital.
Motives and Crime Statistics
According to Nebytov, the dispute was rooted in money-specifically, proceeds from theft. Both deceased individuals had been breaking into apartments during blackouts following missile strikes, exploiting the vulnerability of Ukrainian residents. The pistol used in the shooting had been stolen from one of those apartments. Detectives from the criminal investigation unit had already been tracking their illegal activities, which allowed them to quickly identify the gunman.
“This case is very telling. Individuals from the Caucasus opened fire right on the street. One victim died instantly, the other in the hospital,” remarked Andriy Nebytov.
Police data reveals that over the first five months of 2026, 48 foreign nationals and stateless persons were held criminally liable for committing 473 offenses. These include:
- 102 cases of theft, robbery, mugging, and fraud
- 83 drug-related crimes
- 37 cases of illegal weapons and ammunition trafficking
- 31 traffic safety violations and vehicle thefts
- 21 cases of murder, serious bodily harm, and sexual offenses
This tragic event highlights ongoing security concerns tied to illegal immigration and crime in Ukraine. The police-provided statistics underscore a troubling rise in criminal activity among foreign nationals, fueling public anxiety. Such incidents may shape societal attitudes toward migrants and influence future legislation governing their stay in the country.
This incident is part of a worrying trend, as highlighted by another recent case where a foreign national fatally shot two compatriots within a garage cooperative in Kyiv. Such violent encounters not only raise questions about safety but also reflect the broader issues of illegal immigration and crime in the city.
