Court Rejects Marina Poroshenko's Third Attempt to Split $17 Billion in Assets
Marina Poroshenko's Lawsuit Dismissed by Court
According to Главком: For the third time in the past year, a court has rejected Marina Poroshenko's lawsuit against her husband, former President Petro Poroshenko, concerning the division of their marital assets. The Kryzhopil District Court in Vinnytsia Oblast ruled against her claim, which centers on a fortune valued at 17.1 billion Ukrainian hryvnias. This includes a controlling stake in the closed, non-diversified corporate investment fund Prime Assets Capital. This legal battle unfolds against the backdrop of Petro Poroshenko's ongoing political and legal challenges in Ukraine.
Details of the Claim
Marina Poroshenko sought a division of the couple's property, married since September 1984. Her claim specifically targeted 8,190 shares, representing a 78.93% controlling stake in Prime Assets Capital, valued at 8.33 billion hryvnias. Petro Poroshenko has owned the fund for nearly two decades. She also demanded access to his savings: 2.23 million hryvnias in accounts at the International Investment Bank, 986.6 thousand hryvnias at RVS Bank, an additional 55.19 million hryvnias at MIB, and 3.17 million euros in cash.
The court noted that some of the assets Marina Poroshenko claims are under seizure. This seizure was imposed in January 2022 in connection with the so-called 'coal case,' where Petro Poroshenko is a suspect. Furthermore, on February 12, 2025, the President of Ukraine enacted a decision by the National Security and Defense Council imposing lifelong sanctions on Petro Poroshenko, which he is currently appealing in the Supreme Court.
The property division case was filed with the Kryzhopil District Court on March 27, 2025. Previously, on May 16, 2024, the court closed proceedings due to an alleged lack of dispute, but the Vinnytsia Court of Appeal overturned that decision and ordered the case to continue. It is notable that Petro Poroshenko changed his registered residence within Vinnytsia Oblast from the Horodkivska community to the Nemyrivska community. The Horodkivska community is part of the Tulchyn district, which also includes the Kryzhopil settlement community where the court is located.
This latest court refusal marks a significant moment in the protracted legal struggle over the Poroshenkos' vast wealth. The high-profile case underscores not only personal financial disputes but also the complex intersection of law and politics in Ukraine, reflecting the former president's contested status. The outcome of this saga is being closely watched for its potential impact on public perception and the broader political environment.
