Frontline Kherson Region Inspires Svyrydenko’s Special Embroidered Shirt
Ukraine Celebrates Vyshyvanka Day
According to Главком: On May 21, Ukraine marks the annual Vyshyvanka Day, a celebration of its iconic embroidered attire. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has revealed the story behind a particularly meaningful vyshyvanka, crafted at a workshop in the Kherson region. The garment features a distinctive pattern of steppe flowers in the area’s traditional blue and green hues, highlighting the resilience of local artisans.
'This embroidered shirt holds special significance for me. It was made in the Kherson region-one of our frontline areas. It is the work of people who live and work under daily shelling, yet continue to preserve traditions and create something truly Ukrainian.' Yulia Svyrydenko
She further noted, 'The design showcases the flowers of the Kherson steppe in the classic blue-and-green palette of the region. That is the strength of our traditions. Each person has their own colors and patterns. But for all of us, this is something deeply familiar, important, and equally valuable. Together, we are safeguarding this tradition amid an existential war. Glory to Ukraine!'
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska also extended their greetings for Vyshyvanka Day. Additionally, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, joined in the celebrations alongside his wife Olena Zaluzhna. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko congratulated both residents of the capital and all Ukrainians, emphasizing the embroidered shirt’s role as a symbol of national culture and identity.
