Turkey is suffering from the worst fires in history, there are casualties
Turkey is experiencing a powerful wave of wildfires that have already claimed the lives of at least fourteen people. This has become known due to record high temperatures reaching 50.5°C in the city of Sirnak, which is the highest figure in the history of observations in the country.
More than 1500 people have been evacuated from their homes due to the fires. One firefighter died as a result of nighttime fires in the forested mountains near the city of Bursa in northwestern Turkey. The victims of the fires have not only been residents but also rescuers and forestry workers who fought against the elements.
Turkey's Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ibrahim Yumakli, stated that fire brigades are battling a large number of fires across the country, especially in the northwest. Furthermore, cases of arson in various provinces are being investigated, and criminal proceedings have already been initiated against numerous suspects.
The General Directorate of Meteorology in Turkey predicts even more heat with temperatures that are 10 degrees higher than usual. A similar situation is unfolding in Hungary, where temperatures are also close to the historical record.
