No Application Needed: Pensioners and Veterans to Receive Independence Day Payments in 2026
Automatic One-Time Cash Assistance for Independence Day
According to ХВИЛЯ: Starting in 2026, Ukraine is expanding the list of groups eligible for automatic one-time cash payments tied to Independence Day. According to the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU), retirees, along with recipients of housing subsidies and utility discounts who are not on active duty, will receive the funds in August alongside their regular monthly payment. This group does not need to submit a separate request to the PFU.
Veterans currently serving in the military will have the money transferred to the accounts of their respective military units, institutions, or organizations. It is essential that employers have records confirming an individual’s veteran status to process the payment. Other eligible individuals who are not pensioners, do not receive subsidies or benefits, and are not in service must file an application with their local PFU office.
How to Apply to the PFU
The PFU application must include details from identity documents, a bank account number, a taxpayer identification code (RNOKPP), and information from the certificate granting eligibility for the payment. Copies of a passport and the status certificate should be attached. Those who acquire eligible status before August 24 can apply for the payment if the funds have not arrived by October 1. The deadline for receiving assistance for such individuals is November 1.
Applications can be submitted in three ways:
- in person at a PFU service center or a Citizen Service Center (TsNAP),
- by mail,
- online through the PFU web portal for electronic services, using a qualified electronic signature.
These changes are designed to simplify the process of receiving aid for the specified population groups.
This shift toward automatic payments reflects the state’s effort to ease the financial burden on socially vulnerable groups, including seniors and veterans. By streamlining application procedures through multiple channels-especially online access-the government aims to make social benefits more accessible to citizens. Such improvements could also strengthen the overall social support system in Ukraine.
As the government expands its support for various groups, it's important to understand the broader context of these changes. The recent announcement regarding increased eligibility for cash assistance not only impacts pensioners and veterans but also highlights the evolving landscape of financial support available to citizens. This initiative aims to streamline the process and ensure that more individuals receive the aid they need during significant national celebrations.
