Parking Rates to Increase in Kyiv

According to Главком: Kyiv is set to raise the cost of parking on municipal lots. The municipal enterprise 'Kyivtransparkservice' is beginning to update 1,249 information signs to display the new pricing. The hourly parking rate will increase by 5 UAH, establishing new tariffs for three distinct zones:

  • Zone I (city center) – 40 UAH per hour;
  • Zone II (inner city) – 30 UAH;
  • Zone III (residential districts) – 10 UAH.

These changes come as the city seeks to manage congestion and modernize its transport infrastructure. The director of 'Kyivtransparkservice', Oleksandr Serheienkov, stated that the new signs will be produced by the municipal enterprise 'Center for Traffic Organization'. The official order for the new tariffs is still undergoing final approval. In addition to the rate hike, discounts on monthly parking permits will be introduced for individual taxpayers registered in Kyiv. The prices for these monthly permits are guaranteed to remain fixed at least until the end of 2026:

  • 299 UAH – for Zone III;
  • 999 UAH – for Zone II;
  • 1,499 UAH – for unlimited city-wide parking.

Payment for parking will be available via the 'Kyiv Digital' app and parking meters. For context, the current operational cost of a single public transport ride in Kyiv is 44 UAH. City authorities are expected to determine a new passenger fare within the next two to three months, a calculation based on expenses for salaries, fuel, spare parts, electricity, and depreciation.

Impact on Transport Infrastructure

The upcoming parking tariff revision in Kyiv reflects broader trends of rising service costs amid inflation and economic instability. Introducing discounted monthly permits for local taxpayers may encourage citizens to use legal parking options while also supporting the city's budget.

Simultaneously, the need to reassess public transport fares highlights the general strain on the capital's transportation network, which requires ongoing attention from local authorities.

As the city grapples with rising service costs, the proposed changes to parking fees are not the only adjustments on the horizon. The anticipated fare increase for public transport in Kyiv has sparked criticism, particularly from former officials.
