Kyiv's Route 27 Upgraded with New Low-Floor Trams

New low-floor trams in Kyiv
Нові низькопідлогові трамваї покращили обслуговування маршруту у Києві.

New Trams for Kyiv

According to Главком: On March 13, three new low-floor trams manufactured by Tatra-Yug LLC began operating on Kyiv's tram route No. 27. These vehicles connect three of the capital's districts: Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Desnianskyi. This deployment is part of a batch of eight units purchased last year, with the first five trams already in service on other lines.

The new trams feature a 100% low-floor design, making them fully accessible for passengers with reduced mobility. They are equipped with modern amenities including:

  • Air conditioning
  • Heating
  • A video surveillance system
  • An automated fare collection system

For passenger convenience, the interiors are fitted with eight USB charging ports for electronic devices. Each tram has a total capacity for over 260 passengers, with 67 designated seating spaces.

Furthermore, the tram doors are equipped with additional visual and audible warning signals. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko highlighted the features, stating:

'The carriages have a 100% low floor, are equipped with air conditioning and heating, as well as a video surveillance system and an automated fare payment system.' Vitali Klitschko

Separately, from March 14, the fare on minibus route No. 434 will be set at 20 UAH. This fare adjustment, alongside the introduction of the new trams, forms part of the city's broader efforts to enhance Kyiv's public transport infrastructure. These upgrades are a significant step in modernizing the city's transit network, which has seen increased demand and requires continual investment.

The deployment of these modern trams represents a crucial move toward upgrading public transportation in the capital. It aims not only to improve passenger comfort but also to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities. The concurrent fare increase on route 434 may be part of a wider city strategy to fund new transport projects and improve overall infrastructure, balancing service improvements with financial sustainability.
