Corruption scheme in Kyiv Oblast
According to hvylya.net: In Kyiv Oblast, an official was accused of demanding a bribe of 15,000 dollars for assistance with military registration issues. This was reported by the Office of the Attorney General.
Investigations revealed that the director of one of the communal institutions of the Kyiv Regional Council demanded and received money in exchange for a promise to 'negotiate' with medical institution employees regarding the removal of a person from military registration by preparing the relevant documents.
'Thus, the director committed a criminal offense as stipulated in part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – receiving unjustified benefits for a promise to influence the decision-making of persons authorized to perform functions of the state or local self-government, combined with the extortion of such benefits'
The events that unfolded in Kyiv Oblast demonstrate how widespread corruption can occur even at the lowest levels of government. Identifying and punishing individuals who abuse their positions for personal gain is a crucial step in the fight against this problem.
