Konotop Under Fire: Repeated Attacks Batter the City

According to Главком: A drone strike by Russian occupation forces on Konotop in Sumy Oblast has cut off the city's water supply and partially knocked out its electricity. The attack wounded five people, including four children and their mother. Doctors diagnosed a 13-year-old with acoustic trauma and an acute stress reaction. A fire broke out in a private home but was swiftly extinguished by emergency crews. Utility teams have started repair and restoration work.

The strike targeted Zahrebellia Street. Among the injured are children born in 2012, 2017, and 2023, along with their mother, born in 1988.

“All three children are in the hospital together with their mother, born in 1988, who was also injured as a result of the enemy strike,” said Artem Semenikhin.

Wave of Attacks on Konotop

This assault is the latest in a series of strikes on Konotop. On the night of May 20, a Shahed drone hit a five-story apartment building, destroying three floors. That same day, a 94-year-old resident was killed and 11 others were wounded. Earlier on May 20, an enemy drone also destroyed the city’s Lazarevsky Local History Museum. The attacks on Konotop have continued:

  • On April 28, drones struck the city, injuring several people and damaging private homes, a hospital, and administrative buildings.
  • On April 10, the enemy hit central Konotop, sparking fires in a residential five-story building and an administrative structure.
  • On June 1, a Shahed drone targeted Konotop’s city hospital, though no casualties were reported.

On that same day, Russian forces shelled 41 settlements in Sumy Oblast more than 90 times, wounding ten people.

The ongoing attacks on Konotop and the broader Sumy Oblast highlight sustained active combat and rising tension in the region. Beyond the heavy civilian toll, these strikes are crippling local infrastructure and worsening the humanitarian situation. Restoring damaged facilities and supporting victims remain critical tasks for local authorities and the national government.

The recent drone strike on Konotop is part of a troubling pattern of violence in the region. Just days prior, Russian forces deliberately targeted a hospital in the city, raising serious concerns about the safety of civilians and medical facilities.
