Kremlin Spokesman Claims Ukraine's Oil Strikes Will Only Boost Russia's Revenues

Ukraine's strike on Russian oil
Прес-секретар Кремля стверджує, що удари по нафтовим об'єктам в Україні призведуть до збільшення доходів Росії.

Kremlin Spokesman Comments on Attacks Against Oil Infrastructure

According to Главком: Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s spokesperson, argued that Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil facilities will drive up global crude prices, ultimately increasing Moscow’s profits. He was responding to President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statements about targeting Russia’s refining sector, noting that the market is already facing a severe energy crunch due to the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in far less oil available than needed.

“If additional volumes of our oil are removed from the market, prices will climb higher than they are now-and they are already above $120.” - Dmitry Peskov

He further explained that even if Russian companies export less crude, they will still earn more money, which in turn will boost state budget revenues. “So in that regard, let’s say, our interests will be secured,” he added.

Oil Supplies to Syria and Ukrainian Drone Attacks

Meanwhile, Russia has become the primary oil supplier to Syria. In 2026, Syria purchased 75% more Russian petroleum products than in 2025, with daily shipments rising to 60,000 barrels. Currently, 21 oil-transport vessels are under Western sanctions, yet they continue to operate under the flags of Panama, Madagascar, Oman, Russia, and other nations.

In a separate development, drones from the Alpha Special Operations Center of Ukraine’s Security Service struck infrastructure at the Tuapse seaport and the Tuapse oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region. The attack ignited a fire in tanks holding a fuel-oil mixture, and a column of black smoke was observed above the terminal.

Higher oil prices and increased Russian revenues from these attacks could ripple across the global energy market, especially at a time when supply is already constrained. Russia’s growing oil exports to Syria also highlight how it continues to seek new outlets for its energy resources despite international sanctions. These events underscore the critical role of energy security amid ongoing geopolitical conflicts.

As the Kremlin emphasizes the potential financial benefits of Ukraine's strikes, it's important to consider the broader implications for regional dynamics. Notably, recent data indicates a significant increase in Russian oil exports to Syria, which surged by 75% amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. This shift not only impacts Russia's economic strategies but also reflects the changing landscape of energy supply in the region.
