UEFA transferred over €10 million to Russia: Ukrainian clubs left without support
UEFA paid over €10.8 million to Russian football clubs through solidarity funds, even despite their suspension from European competitions since 2022 due to events in Ukraine. At the same time, Ukrainian clubs received no financial support. This was reported by The Guardian.
Clubs from Ukraine, including 'Chornomorets', 'Real Pharma', 'Metallurg', 'Phoenix', and 'Metalist 1925', reached out to UEFA with letters expressing their disappointment and inquiring why they had not received financial support. It is noted that the reason for the denial was the location of the teams in conflict zones.
Solidarity payments are intended for clubs not participating in European competitions to ensure stability in European football. Russian clubs, despite the sanctions, received financial support from UEFA.
Ukrainian football clubs were left without support from UEFA, while Russian clubs received over €10.8 million through solidarity funds, even after the suspension from European competitions due to events in Eastern Ukraine.
