Over 800 Kilometers of Roadways Now Equipped with Anti-Drone Defenses in Ukraine
Protecting Frontline Roads from Drone Threats in Ukraine
According to Главком: In May 2026, the State Special Transport Service installed over 211 kilometers of anti-drone protection along frontline roads, marking a significant step in securing Ukraine's logistics routes. Since the start of the year, a total of 822 kilometers of such defenses have been set up, highlighting the rapid expansion of engineering structures amid ongoing hostilities.
Over the past month, units of the State Special Transport Service completed a substantial workload. They deployed 211.52 kilometers of engineered anti-drone barriers for logistics pathways and restored nearly 38 kilometers of damaged protective structures. Additionally, 115.5 kilometers of automobile roads in frontline regions were repaired.
Building an Airspace Shield
Colonel Pavlo Yelizarov, Deputy Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, announced that the country is nearing the creation of a comprehensive airspace defense system-the Anti-Drone Dome. The Ministry of Defense underscored the importance of deploying anti-drone nets, stating:
“Every protected kilometer means safer logistics and saved lives.” - Pavlo Yelizarov
This effort helps reduce delivery times for supplies and medical evacuations, lowers the risk of damage to equipment and personnel, and supports civilian communities under difficult conditions.
The deployment of anti-drone defenses and the restoration of infrastructure in frontline areas are vital for maintaining safety and stability in Ukraine during the war. These actions also reflect the government's commitment to protecting civilians and sustaining economic activity in regions affected by military aggression. Reliable logistics routes enable faster responses to the needs of both the population and the armed forces, which is especially critical in a conflict zone.
In addition to the recent advancements in anti-drone defenses, the Ukrainian government is also investing significantly in protective measures for key transport routes. For instance, 96 million hryvnias have been allocated for drone-proof netting along roads in the Kherson region, further enhancing the safety of logistics and civilian movement in areas facing ongoing threats. Such initiatives are crucial for maintaining operational security and ensuring the resilience of infrastructure amidst the conflict.
