Ukraine's Proposal for Middle Eastern Cooperation

According to Главком: In a new diplomatic push, Ukraine has initiated talks with Middle Eastern nations, offering to supply interceptor drones and share combat expertise in return for scarce Patriot missile systems. This proposal follows consultations by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with the leaders of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Israel. During these discussions, Zelenskyy outlined the core of the deal:

“Our request is very straightforward. We would like to receive the scarce Patriot missiles and provide a corresponding number of interceptors in return. Everyone understands that Patriot systems alone will not be enough.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy

The high-level talks also included Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief, Chief of the General Staff, Defense Minister, military personnel, management, and intelligence representatives. Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stressed the importance of this partnership, noting that 'we have received requests from our partners for relevant cooperation.' He added that specific timelines and practical steps to implement this initiative are now under discussion.

Recent Regional Events Influence the Dialogue

Recent events in the Middle East have directly impacted these negotiations. During recent attacks in the region, over 800 PAC-3 missiles were used in just three days, highlighting the soaring regional demand for air defense capabilities. In response to Iranian aggression, Fedorov condemned actions that threaten regional stability.

Zelenskyy further clarified Ukraine's position: “We have clearly understood the quantity [of missiles] we need and the additional quantity we can produce very quickly if we have such a dialogue with our partners.”

This initiative comes at a time when, since 2022, the United States has drawn down a significant portion of its military stockpiles, including artillery systems, ammunition, and anti-tank missiles, affecting global supply. Ukraine's proposal represents a strategic effort to diversify its sources of critical defense materiel.

Furthermore, the Ukrainian company Deviro is developing the Sokyra interceptor drone, which could become a key asset in this cooperation with Middle Eastern countries. Ukraine is prepared to offer not only technical equipment but also expertise in protecting civilian infrastructure, particularly oil facilities, as part of the experience exchange with partners.

This initiative signals a deepening of military collaboration between Ukraine and Middle Eastern nations against a backdrop of escalating regional threats. The exchange of technology and battlefield knowledge could strengthen the defensive capabilities of both sides, especially given the heightened tensions caused by Iran's aggressive actions. Engaging new partners in the military sphere may also help Ukraine compensate for its own weapon shortages and bolster its position on the international stage.
