Memorandum of Understanding Signed

According to НВ — Техно: A memorandum of understanding has been signed between KONGSBERG and Ukraine’s DevDroid, aimed at the large-scale production and joint development of robotic combat platforms. The agreement involves integrating KONGSBERG’s remote weapon stations with Ukrainian ground robots. The contract value, delivery volumes, and timeline have not been disclosed.

Key Systems Unveiled

Among the standout systems is the Droid TW 12.7, which first underwent field trials in 2023 and was officially codified by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence in December 2024. Initially built around a 12.7mm Browning machine gun, a 7.62mm variant is also available. The Droid TW 12.7 carries between 480 and 1,000 rounds and can engage targets at up to 1 km. Its target detection range reaches 1.5 km during the day and 1 km at night, with a deployment time of roughly five minutes.

Another key system is the PROTECTOR RS4 remote weapon station, which supports calibers from 5.56mm and 7.62mm to 12.7mm, as well as 40mm grenade launchers, anti-tank guided missiles, and twin weapon configurations. KONGSBERG’s involvement in the U.S. Army’s CROWS program highlights the company’s advanced technological capabilities.

Yuriy Porytsky, CEO of DevDroid, stated: 'We produce strike systems with machine guns and grenade launchers. But we are not trying to be Rheinmetall or another European company. Ukrainian defense companies create solutions for war whose lifecycle is not 5–10 years, as in Europe, but just a few months.'

This memorandum between KONGSBERG and DevDroid opens up new possibilities for Ukraine’s defense industry, especially in the field of robotics. Joint efforts could significantly enhance the speed and effectiveness of military units in modern combat-an urgent priority given the ongoing armed conflict. It also signals growing international interest in Ukrainian defense technologies and the potential of local manufacturers in this sector.

As Ukraine strengthens its defense capabilities through innovative partnerships, another significant collaboration has emerged. The recent agreement with the Czech Republic aims to enhance the production of engines for missiles and drones, which complements the advancements in robotic combat systems initiated with KONGSBERG. This synergy between nations is crucial for bolstering military efficiency in the face of ongoing challenges.
