First LNG Delivery via Germany to Ukraine

According to Главком: For the first time, Ukraine has received liquefied natural gas (LNG) via a German import terminal. The shipment arrived at the Deutsche ReGas facility in the Baltic Sea, was regasified, and then transported through Poland into Ukraine's gas transmission network. The Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz, Serhii Kopenko, announced this milestone, confirming that the gas will be available within the Ukrainian system starting in February. This development is part of a broader European effort to help Ukraine secure its energy supply.

This new German route follows a previous shipment of nearly 100 million cubic meters of American LNG, which Ukraine received via the Polish terminal in Świnoujście. The opening of this additional supply channel through Germany is crucial for bolstering the country's energy security, especially in the face of relentless Russian attacks targeting its energy infrastructure.

Strategic Importance of the New Supply Route

“This is more than just a new route for us. It is the result of trust and coordinated work with our partners. Given the constant Russian attacks on our energy infrastructure, every additional channel for gas supply strengthens our energy security.”

Serhii Kopenko

Considering the current challenges, the new gas supply path via the German terminal represents a significant step for Ukraine in ensuring the stability of its energy resources.

Securing LNG through a German terminal marks a vital phase in Ukraine's strategy to diversify its energy supplies. This move not only enhances its energy security but also demonstrates deepening cooperation with European partners. In the context of the ongoing war and energy crisis, such initiatives can substantially impact the stability of Ukraine's energy market and its resilience against external threats.
