Ukraine's Lard and Fat Imports Surge by 70% in Early 2026: Key Suppliers Revealed
Sharp Increase in Ukraine's Lard and Fat Imports
According to Главком: During the first two months of 2026, Ukraine saw a substantial rise in its imports of lard, pork fat, and poultry fat. The total volume reached 2.9 thousand tons, marking a 70.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Expenditure on these purchases was approximately $3.3 million USD, which is 65% higher than in January-February of the previous year. This significant jump highlights a notable shift in the country's food supply chain dynamics.

Three nations were the primary suppliers of these fats to Ukraine during this timeframe, accounting for nearly the entire import volume:
- Poland - 61.1% of imports
- Germany - 35.9% of imports
- Spain - 2.4% of the total volume
Analysts suggest this import trend points to evolving consumer preferences within the Ukrainian market and a rising demand for these specific products. The reliance on imports may also reflect domestic production levels struggling to meet current consumption needs. Given that Poland and Germany are the dominant suppliers, maintaining strong trade relations with these EU nations is crucial for ensuring a steady supply. This influx of imported fats could also lead to price adjustments within the Ukrainian market, as increased supply often influences domestic pricing structures.
