Ukrainians are mass becoming bankrupts: 577 cases in six months and a 33% increase
According to hvylya.net: In the first half of the year, 577 people declared bankruptcy in Ukraine, which is 33% more than last year. These data were provided by Opendatabot.
The total number of bankruptcy cases is increasing, with 926 such cases opened last year. This year, it is possible to match these figures.
Over the past five years, 2948 bankruptcy cases have been opened for individuals. Although the bankruptcy procedure was introduced in 2019, Ukrainians only began to use it actively from 2021.
Statistics by gender indicators
More than half of the cases opened since 2021 concern men (52%), while the rest are women (48%). The gender distribution remains about the same each year.
In 2025, the most bankruptcy cases were opened in Kyiv - 90, followed by Odesa region with 47 cases, and Kyiv region with 46 cases.
The increase in the number of bankruptcy cases is part of a sustained trend that has been continuing for several years. The procedure is gradually becoming more predictable, but the consequences of being declared insolvent will affect a person for at least several years.
According to Likhopyok Denys Pavlovych, there are problematic issues in the bankruptcy procedure, such as tax consequences, interactions with enforcement proceedings, and other judicial cases that may remain outside the framework of insolvency cases.
Ukraine is witnessing a rise in the number of personal bankruptcies. The bankruptcy procedure is gradually becoming more predictable, but its consequences may affect a person for a long time. Men are more vulnerable to this process compared to women. Issues with tax consequences and judicial matters remain relevant for bankrupt individuals of all genders.
