According to the agreement, Ukrainians in Latvia will be able to use their national licenses on an equal basis and exchange them for local documents without passing theoretical or practical exams.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine emphasizes that this agreement is important against the backdrop of the mass migration of Ukrainians due to the war. It simplifies the adaptation of citizens abroad and allows for quicker integration into new conditions.

Ukrainian licenses abroad: which countries have agreements

Latvia has become the sixth state to agree to mutual recognition of driving licenses with Ukraine.

Currently, such agreements are in effect with:

  • Spain;

  • Italy;

  • United Arab Emirates;

  • Lithuania;

  • Turkey;

  • Latvia.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Bohdan Drapiatyi noted that Ukraine has managed to significantly reduce corruption risks in the field of issuing driving licenses.

«Such systemic changes directly contribute to increasing road safety and strengthening the trust of international partners in the level of knowledge and skills of Ukrainian drivers», — he emphasized.

The department adds that work is ongoing to expand the list of countries that recognize Ukrainian driving licenses.
