Ukrainian refugees brought 15 billion crowns to the Czech Republic: how this affects the economy
In the first half of 2025, Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic are contributing over 15 billion crowns to the country's budget, which is 6 billion more than the government spends on their support, said Czech Minister of Labor Marian Jurečka.
There are over 169 thousand Ukrainians with temporary protection status in the Czech Republic, and the total number of refugees exceeds 393 thousand, including 93 thousand children and more than 18 thousand elderly people.
In recent years, revenues from Ukrainians in the Czech Republic have exceeded state expenditures. In 2024, refugees earned 24.8 billion crowns, while 15.5 billion was spent on their support. However, not everyone in the Czech Republic supports this situation. The opposition promises to review the conditions for Ukrainians' stay in the country, and the minister warns of possible negative consequences of mass refugee departure.
In recent years, Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic have become an important source of income for the country, exceeding government spending on their support.
