Oleh Zahorodnii's Volunteer Efforts

According to РБК-Україна — Lite: After the full-scale invasion began, actor Oleh Zahorodnii chose to stay in Kyiv. He evacuated his parents to Romania and kept his café open, turning it into a key hub for collecting supplies for the military. A conversation with his friend Nazar Hrabar-who, along with his brother, joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine-sparked Zahorodnii's volunteer work. Collaborating with clothing designer Oksana Lebedynska, he started producing military uniforms, recognizing a critical shortage of gear for troops.

Zahorodnii's team essentially built their military apparel production from scratch, churning out thousands of sets. Each month, they managed to equip between one and two thousand soldiers. By 2024, as military supply chains began to stabilize, the team shifted focus to other pressing needs. In late October 2025, they started developing adaptive clothing, launching a new project called Unique Human.

Creating Adaptive Clothing

Zahorodnii met serviceman Dmytro Tereshchenko at Ukrainian Fashion Week, and Tereshchenko became the face of the Unique Human brand. American photographer Bruce Weber shot the advertising campaign in Miami. Zahorodnii remarked:

“When we started creating adaptive clothing, I immediately thought of Dima. I called him and said, 'I'm launching a brand, and I want you to be its face.'” - Oleh Zahorodnii

The actor emphasized that this new direction arose from the urgent need for comfortable clothing for people with prosthetics. 'After we completed the major phase of uniform production, there was a pause. Then I began to notice how many people had lost limbs due to the war,' Zahorodnii said. He added that there is virtually no comfortable clothing for amputees:

  • People told him that wearing regular pants or jeans was uncomfortable.

Through teamwork, the group found solutions that could improve daily life. Zahorodnii hopes that 'tens of thousands of people will be able to wear Unique Human adaptive clothing.' The collection's designs and style were tailored to different body types and needs, including for female soldiers. 'We didn't like how standard military pants looked-they were too baggy,' the actor added.

In this way, Oleh Zahorodnii and his team continue their volunteer work, creating new possibilities for those in need of adaptive clothing while contributing to military support.

Zahorodnii's volunteer work reflects innovative approaches to social responsibility during wartime. Developing adaptive clothing for amputees is a crucial step toward addressing accessibility and comfort for those affected by the conflict. The Unique Human project not only offers practical solutions but also raises public awareness about the needs of people with disabilities, potentially driving inclusivity forward in Ukraine.
